From the outset of graduating law school, Brian Leedy has devoted his career to defending individuals in the criminal justice system in both state and federal courts. He began his criminal defense work with the Office of the State Public Defender more than a dozen years ago, where he represented clients in a full range of criminal cases including drug trafficking, firearm offenses, mail and wire fraud, immigration, child pornography, terrorism, assaults in Indian land, bank robbery, alien smuggling, and first-degree murder.

Prior to entering private practice, Brian served as a federal public defender in Colorado for eight years and at the Denver trial office of the state public defender for five years. His work with both offices focused on all aspects of client representation at all stages of the trial process including representation of pre-indictment grand jury targets. Brian’s practice is client-focused, and he is consistently successful in securing acquittals, case dismissals, and mitigated sentences on behalf of his clients. Brian has been qualified as a defense expert in the area of Federal Fraud sentencing practice in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

Given the depth and breadth of Brian’s experience, he is a frequent lecturer on topics related to criminal defense. While with the federal public defender’s office, Brian served as the office’s training director, a position responsible for providing continuing legal education for defense attorneys of the federal bar. While with the Federal Public Defender, he also served as the director of the office’s internship program.

Brian has taught courses with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, the University of Colorado Law School, the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and the Colorado Criminal Defense bar. Brian also frequently teaches continuing legal education courses for the Colorado State Public Defender and Criminal Justice Act Panel.

While in law school, Brian also gained trial experience with the U.S. Department of Justice – Environment and Natural Resources Division, the Defenders of Wildlife Litigation Department. Before entering the law, Brian worked as an Environmental Project Manager with the World Federation of United Nations.
